1/100 Bandai VF-19

Before anyone says anything, yes this is more of a glorified toy than a model, and no I didn't do any mods on it. This is also one of the few angles it actually looks good without exposing all the gaps in the legs, wings, and back. That being said,I still like it for its decent transformation, optional parts, and working landing gear.

I like the Excalibur design and did this kit for fun. However, while I love a lot of the M7 designs, I hate their gaudy color schemes, so I did my own color scheme based off of some of :iconbagera3005:'s schemes.

The VF-19s are my favorites. Specifically, Basara's(can't get much more awesome than fighting with the power of rock), but all of them really. I honestly thought the blue and yellow for the excaliburs looked pretty good.

Its a great color scheme for a show plane like the Blue Angels, but not so much for a active fighter. The M7 valkyries all screme 'demonstration colors' to me, which would be fine if they were at an airshow.

Yeah, that's true. The only ones that the colors worked for battle were the Nightmares, and to an extent, the Sturmvogels.

That is really nice! I've got a Hasegawa 1/72 YF21 taunting me from my top shelf at the moment, still completely untouched save for one or two pieces removed from the sprue.

Unfortunately the completely unpainted nature of the kit and the tininess of the parts is kinda daunting so I'm building up confidence with other fiddly kits.

Was the blue colour scheme meant to be reminiscent of Max's VF22 or the YF21?

No, I found a custom scheme for the 19 on Deviantart that was blue, gray, black, and red that I liked. But the bottom of the plane was painted light gray and I figured that would be pointless in space, so I painted the whole thing blue.

The YF-19 has canards on its nose, as does the VF-19 Custom, but the VF-19 production types do not, instead they have a set of 3 thrusters behind the cockpit. The main differences between the YF and the VF is in the canards, the wing shape, and the shape of the shoulders.
